1. The first item is the first aid kit. It is important to the group because it can save our lives. If one gets an infection or a serious injury, the first aid kit has the tools to help us recover. The first aid kit symbolizes care. Without care, it would be very hard to work as a team. When everyone cares about and protects each other, we are able to overcome obstacles.
2. The second item is the signal flares. It is important because it is the tool we will be using to get the attention of nearby ships or planes. The signal flare symbolizes rescue. Even if someone was nearby, they would not be able to see us without some kind of signal. Having a signal flare is very important, as it emits a strong light that is able to be seen from a long distance.
3. The third item is hammer and nails. They are important because they help us with the building of our shelters, which would be impossible to live without. The hammer and nails symbolize support. There are many obstacles we must overcome when we are stranded on an island. Working hard as a team and supporting each other makes those obstacles a lot easier to overcome.
4. The fourth item is the mosquito netting. It is important because it keeps out insects and bugs that may be carrying diseases. In a tropical island like this, there is a good chance that such bugs can infect us with something that cannot be cured without medicine. The mosquito netting symbolizes protection. Protection not only from the insects, but from all the evil that the island might be trying to inflict on us. The boys in Lord of the Flies had a fear of a beast, and were almost helpless to get rid of it. Us, on the other hand, see the netting as a wall from all evil.
5. The fifth item is the axe. It is important because it is a primary tool in our daily routine. It helps us clear the path in a dense forest, reach fruit by cutting down the branch, or helping to form suitable pieces of wood for shelters or other buildings. The axe symbolizes hard work. Hard work is very important, as it will make rescue a lot easier.
